  • The Brief

The Childhood Trust is London’s child poverty charity, they support grassroot charities & other projects across London with the overarching objective of providing aid to the 700,000 children living in poverty. They were in need of website redesign as well as a fresh take on the existing brand.

    The Approach

We worked closely with the Trust’s stakeholders throughout the project from kick-off to final delivery, the process started with a light design workshop in order to get a general idea of the design direction. This was then followed up with a 1 week design sprint where I produced several concepts to present to the client with the goal of deciding on a visual language & direction for the new site.

    The Concept

The chosen concept, although based around the original existing logo, required a novel visual direction to refresh the brand and so we decided to go with a soft, warm toned red that was laced throughout the site with deep gray tones and an abundance of white. This produced a clean, minimal visual language that did not detract from the Trust’s message while also providing a moderate touch of warm tones through the new red. Additionally, to tie some of the visual language back into the Trust’s subject matter we had taken the original logo’s vector graphic and superimposed it as a graphical asset throughout the site.

    Outcome

The team at The Childhood Trust were happy with the final product: “We wanted the new website to reflect the work that we do and encapsulate our values. I think the designs absolutely achieve that.” Furthermore, I am pleased to mention the site ended up winning Best Non-Profit Website award from the WebAwards.
